Vision
To see as many as possible in our community come to know forgiveness and fresh start though Jesus.

What we believe
At St. Peter's South Tamworth we firmly believe that Jesus is who he claimed to be, the Christ: Son of the living God. This conviction is based on the historical claims about Jesus’ life, death and resurrection as recorded in the gospels of the New testament. These biographies, based on eye witness accounts affirm that Jesus was God become man and that he has the right to our ultimate allegiance as human beings.

We believe that the Bible, both Old and New testaments, is the inspired word of God, and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness that the man or woman of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Tim 3:16-17). Furthermore we believe that the scriptures must be our ultimate rule for life and faith, and that no part of it can be ignored as irrelevant or outdated.

We believe that the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds provide a helpful summary of what we believe and use these statements regularly in our weekly gatherings. The 39 articles contained in the back of the Australian Anglican Prayer book also provide a helpful summary of the doctrines we believe at St. Peter’s.

In all our meetings, both at Church services on the weekends and in our small group Bible studies, it is our goal to accurately understand and explain the Biblical texts in their context, and to apply them practically to our own life situation. We believe and pray, that the Holy Spirit will help us to rightly understand and apply God’s word to our daily lives.

Ministry Training Mindset
Jesus said to his disciples “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:36-37. Our prayer at St. Peter’s is that God will continue to raise up gospel workers for rural Australia. As a larger Anglican church in the rural diocese of Armidale, St. Peter’s is ideally placed to be proactive in ministry training. To that end we plan to be involved in taking on ministry trainees and year 13 students who can spend some time gaining experience in ministry. This training will help to equip these young people for a lifetime of ministry and God willing these initiatives will help us raise up the next generation of gospel ministers, not just for rural Australia, but possibly into all the world.

History
On the 7th September 1947 a group of Christians began meeting in Lydia Street, South Tamworth as a church plant from St Paul's West Tamworth.

By 1961 the fellowship of believers had grown resulting in them purchasing property at the current location of St Peter's church buildings.

The parish was granted autonomy from West Tamworth in 1971.

The body of St Peter's has always been a group of people committed to understanding and applying God's word. As a result it is an outward looking community, as indicated by the establishment of a pre-school in 1969 and with a great heritage of support for mission.

God has granted growth to the body of St Peter's which now constitutes four congregations and incorporates the outlying centre of Duri.

Location
St Peter's is located at 34 Vera Street
